GOVERNOR OKOWA CONCERNED ABOUT HEALTH... DR MIKE NWOKO


On Wednesday, August 28, 2019, Dr. Michael Nwoko, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to Delta Governor on Health Monitoring, has said that Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa is passionate about the well- being of the Deltans.


This was disclosed on his courtesy visit to the Delta State Publishing and Printing Ltd.,the Publishers of the Pointer Newspaper as he met with the General Manager and top management team of the company.


Dr. Michael Nwoko, while addressing the top leadership of the company, acknowledged the efforts of the company in propagating the praiseworthy policies and programmes of the Delta State Government.



He further said the promotion of the laudable works of the State Government by the company has sensitized the people of Delta State, making them understand, embrace and be a beneficiary of the programmes and policies of the Delta State Government, the Contributory Health Scheme in particular which is very essential and prominent in healthcare service in the whole world.
Dr. Michael Nwoko buttressed that it is due to Gov. Okowa’s passion for the provision of an accessible, quality and affordable healthcare service to the people of Delta State that prompted him to establish the Delta State Contributory Health Insurance Scheme under the body, the Delta State Contributory Health Commission where he was given an opportunity to serve as a Special Assistant to the Governor.


He disclosed that the Health Insurance Scheme is recognised worldwide as a strategy to achieve an effective, quality, quick and affordable healthcare service for the people. As Gov. Okowa is passionate about the well-being of the Deltans,he established the programme immediately he resumed office in 2015.
The benefits of the scheme is enormous as the enrollees will be attended to at first point of contact and they are not required to pay for the drugs and the treatment rendered to them even when the enrollees are having health challenges.
The SSA to the Governor on Health Monitoring has also disclosed that over five hundred thousand (500,000) Deltans have enrolled in the Contributory Health Scheme and currently benefiting from the programme.
He said this high rate of enrollment is made possible by the assistance of the media especially the Pointer Newspaper.
Dr. Michael Nwoko said his courtesy visit was in recognition of the Newspaper’s efforts in propagating the policies and programmes of the State Government. He thereby solicited for their support in sensitising the Deltans about the benefits of the Contributory Health Scheme.
He also used the privilege to state his job schedule which include evaluation and monitoring of the healthcare facilities in the 25 Local government areas of the State and also serve as an intermediary between the healthcare providers and the enrollees of the scheme by organising public enlightenment campaigns on the benefits of enrolling in the Health scheme.
Mr. Monday Uwagwu, the General Manager of the Delta State Publishing and Printing Company, while responding to Dr. Michael Nwoko’s address, said he has known Gov. Okowa for over 30 years as a medical practitioner who is passionate about the health and well-being of the people.


He commended Gov. Okowa for his immense contributions when he served as a Senator among which was the sponsoring of the bill for the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme and for continuing his good works when elected as the Delta State Governor.



He supported the SSA’s perspective about the health scheme that it was the best way to achieve quality, quick, accessible and affordable healthcare services for the people of Delta State. He buttressed that Deltans need to be sensitized about the benefits of the health scheme and also be enlightened about the need to take their health serious so that minor health problems won’t escalate into bigger health challenges.
The General Manager also praised Governor Okowa for his undaunted efforts to develop the State, that he will leave an outstanding mark even after leaving the office.
Mr. Uwagwu also assured the SSA to the Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko that the media will give him all the support he needed in order to discharge his duties at his new appointment.
