*EMETULU BACKS CAMPAIGN AGAINST FEMALE VICTIMIZATION, SEXUAL MOLESTATION IN SCHOOLS*

12th September, 2019.

The House Committee on Education, Delta State House of Assembly Hon. Charles Emetulu has thrown his weight behind the proposed campaign against female victimization and sexual molestation in schools across Nigeria, to be organized by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS).

The Lawmaker while addressing delegates from the association at his Office in Asaba on Thursday frowned at the menace and called on relevant law enforcement agencies in the country not to handle related incidents with soft gloves. The Lawmaker who unveiled the association's campaign/sensitisation materials to kick off the programme on 1st of October, 2019 in Asaba assured them of his absolute support and solidarity.

Hon. Emetulu stressed that sexual molestation of women and stigmatization across schools in Nigeria is massively militating against the development of the sector and its advancement and called for its timely curtailing and possible eradication. According to the Lawmaker, "this can be partly achieved through strengthening the various institutions in the State and ensuring that Laws made are fully implemented".

He further said that sexual violence is a serious problem, especially to young ladies with high tendencies of falling victims. According to Hon. Emetulu the menace is caused by several factors, amongst which he said includes indecent dressings amongst the female student and attending unnecessary jamboree and unfounded visitations.

The House Committee on Education urged students in the country, especially in Delta State to cultivate the habit of being their brothers keepers, speaking up against the menace and also taking steps to increase personal safety and as well refraining from any conduct that may lead to it. He assured the association that the State House of Assembly will continue to do everything possible to ensure that students schooling in Delta State are safe, secured and progressive.

The delegation of the association which was led by Comr. Dio Oghale Emeka Rex (the Director of Mobilization and Strategic Engagements of NAPS) appealed to the Lawmaker to facilitate the upward review of budgetary allocation for Education in the State and work towards ensuring that more technical schools are established across the Local Government Areas of Delta State if possible. The NAPS delegation presented an award of credence to Hon. Charles Emetulu in regards to his landslide victory to represent the good people of Ndokwa West Constituency of Delta State and immense contribution in societal growth, human capital development and youth emancipation as includes his immense contribution towards advancement of institutions of learning including students across the length and breath of Delta State and Nigeria at large.

The group received commendation from the Delta Lawmaker for being gender friendly. For ensuring that female folks made almost 50% of their delegation.
