PROPOSED STARS UNIVERSITY TO PARTNER WITH FUPRE.  .....
Hon. Dr. Prince Ned Nwoko.

By Iroroh Frank.

The founder and Chancellor of the PROPOSED STARS University (Sports, Technology, Arts and Research Science University), Idumuje Ugboko, Delta State. Hon. Dr. Prince Ned Nwoko, Saturday, hinted that the university will partner with the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun, FUPRE, to provide quality university education to the Nigerian youths, to aid them with the requisite knowledge to drive the development and economy of the country to accelerated level.

The international legal luminary and senator elect for Delta north, dropped the hint while addressing the university community on the occasion of the award of honorary doctor of science degree to him by the premier petroleum university in Africa.

On this versed issue, the visionary Prince shared the opinion that academic and research collaborations are very valuable tool that not only accelerates the progress, economic growth and development of a country, but also enhances the quality of education offered by the institutions to the citizens of the country.

Academic collaboration is beneficial to universities in learning new teaching tools, exchange of ideas, collaboration in research works and enthronement of a lasting sports culture within their various campuses and the country at large. All these add up, will increase the breadth and knowledge of students in learning different approaches to solving their individual problems and contribute their quoter in meeting national challenges.

This tool is being increasingly utilised with success in developed countries. Good examples where such partnerships are been implemented are the the Ivy League universities in the United States of America, the Oxbridge and the Golden Triangle universities in the United Kingdom, the C9 League universities in China, the Group of Eight universities in Australia, and the Imperial Universities in Japan. These universities have evolved strong culture through partnership in many areas which have helped to placed them top among the universities in the world and also placed their countries at high pedistrial in technological advancement, economic and sports development.
Particularly, the Ivy League basketball teams have made US NBA classical and unrivaled globally by feeding the league with young basketball stars.

But in Nigeria, Unfortunately, collaboration and partnership among institutions, by and large have been neglected. This valuable collaborative approach that would have helped the universities to meet the funding challenges bedeviling them, is neglected. This is regrettable considering the paucity of funds available to the universities for research and other faculty provisions.

Under the prevailing conditions in the Nigerian, universities in the country must have a well-planned partnership and collaborative approach in a manner, as envisioned by Hon. Dr. Prince Ned Nwoko.
Partnership and collaboration must be embraced, emphasised, encouraged and brought to a level where it can impact and improve the quality, resources and capabilities of Nigerian institutions to undertake research to find solutions to the numerous challenges facing the country.

Universities are not just established to churn out graduates on yearly basis, they have obligations to produced individuals who can function properly in the society. They are also obligated to carry out research and provide solutions to the country's problems. But in a situation where most universities in the country does not have functioning laboratories and engineering workshops, partnership becomes inevitable to enable them make effective use of available resources to achieve desired results. Otherwise, these institutions will continue to churn out half bake graduates and the country will continue to spend billions of dollars to seek for foreign assistance to overcome her problems.

Frankly speaking, Nigerians want to see how FUPRE can researched and up with homegrown solutions on how to clean up Niger-Delta environments polluted by long years of oil and gas exploration and exploitation. Luckily, one of the programmes on offer at STARS University, is RESEARCH SCIENCE.

So, partnership with FUPRE, will in no distance future, lead to viable ways of cleaning up our degraded and polluted environments, enhanced the technological advancement and economic growth of the country as well as revitalized sports through all seasons intramural sport activities.

"An academic culture that fosters partnerships and cooperation instead of individualism must be embraced to improve quality of education offers as well as accelerate progress and development of the country". Hon. Dr. Prince Ned Nwoko.

The above quote, summarizes the vision of our great Prince on this burning national issue. That is why he is needed at the Senate, to give the Red Chamber sense of direction and cleanse the upper house of ruts and dirt littered there by a bunch of timid and ignorant budget padding criminals.
