NEIGHBORHOOD CLUSTERING, AGAINST SOCIAL DISTANCING MEASURES -- Dr Michael Nwoko.

By Iroroh Frank

There is no doubt that humanity is facing a serious health crises occasioned by outbreak a killer virus, the coronavirus, codenamed COVID-19.

It is obvious not many persons are aware of the fact that the virus lethargic tentacles can be spread to anywhere and contracted anywhere and on any surface. World Health Organization(WHO) and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), understands how it spreads and how it can be contracted, hence they issued out guidelines, detailing measures we must adopt to prevent the people from contracting it and to curtail its spread.

Amongst these measures is Social distancing, but many people misconstrue the concept to excluded neighborhood clustering because, to these set of persons, COVID-19 is far away and not within their immediate neighborhood. This is a dangerous misconception because nobody can tell who his or her neighbour have met or who is in contact with an infected person.

Sensing the dangers of allowing this misconception to grow among the people, Dr. Michael Nwoko, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State and a member COVID-19 Enforcement Committee, took to his Facebook wall to urged  the public to avoid neighborhood clustering.

The message he posted on his Facebook wall yesterday April 5th reads,  'good morning esteem Leaders, Colleagues, family and friends.

As we ensure strict compliance with Government’s "sit at home" order, it is important for us to avoid clusters of people in our neighborhood and also report same for prompt action. Such clusters is against the social distancing measure which is key to curtailing the spread of COVID-19. If such is allowed, it will undermine the very essence of the "sit at home order" which was carefully arranged by Government in order to guarantee the safety of all residents of the State following the outbreak of COVID-19 in different parts of the Country.

Delta State is yet to record any case of COVID-19 due to the efforts of His Excellency, the Governor through the Ministry of Health, Emergency Operation Committee and of course due to the level of awareness and compliance on the path of the residents of the State. It is important we navigate through the period of lock down without any reported case.

Together, we can stop COVID-19. He concluded the message.

Meanwhile, the untiring and unrelenting SSA  visited Ali-Ifekede, Edo - Delta border yesterday April 5th on his daily border monitoring duty.
At the border post, he commended the team of health workers and the security personnel for their commitment and diligence to duty.

He specifically commended the Ika South Local Government Council Boss Hon. Barr. Victor Okoh for providing additional water tank for the washing station and fixing of Fog lights in the border area to ensure it is properly lit in order to boost operations of border closure enforcement team on a 24 hours basis.

Also, same day, the SSA was at the Delta-Edo border post at Ologbo, where he again encouraged the health workers as well as the security personnel covering the post, to put in their best at this critical time to ensure the border closure policy is fully operational and effective.
