DR. NWOKO VISITS BORDER POSTS, URGES ADHERENCE TO LOCKDOWN ORDER, COMMENDS PERSONNEL.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State (Health Monitoring), Dr. Michael Nwoko who is also a member COVID-19 Enforcement Committee, visited  border posts at Alifekede, Idumuje-Ugboko, Patani, Ologbo and Asaba head bridge to monitor the implementation of the border closure enforcement.

He visited Ologbo border post in Ethiope West LGA, Delta State, yesterday 3rd April and at the boundary shared between Edo and Delta, the SSA, enjoined all the personnel at the post to adhere strictly to the recommendations of the border closure enforcement committee.

He charged the health team to ensure they are always on ground and adhere strictly to the protocol on COVID-19, adding that the whole essence of the shutdown was to ensure that COVID-19 disease does not spread to the State.

His words, 'I am here as part of the Delta State COVID-19 border closure enforcement committee. As you are aware, the essence of enforcing the border closure is to ensure that those infected with COVID-19 from other States, does not spread it Delta State.'

'So, you must adhere strictly to the recommendations of the border closure enforcement committee. On no account should you allow people to come into the Sate without temperature checks. The only category of people allowed to cross this border are people carrying food items and other essential commodities like petroleum products and pharmaceuticals.' He emphasized.

Dr. Nwoko further added, 'I want to commend all of you for your services to the State, your sacrifice will keep your love ones and the entire residents of the State safe from this terrible virus threatening human existence on earth.
I also want to advice you, the health workers, to adhere strictly to the COVID-19 protocol, to protect yourselves and ensure that infected persons do not cross the border to our State, because the essence of the border closure is to make sure we are safe and that the virus does not spread to Delta State.' He concluded.

He equally commended the Local Government Council Chairman, Mr. Solomon Godwin for his efforts in monitoring the lockdown order in the LGA. He also thanked the Council Chairman of Aniocha North LGA, Mr. Chucks Oseme for his unrelenting efforts in making sure that border closure is enforced.

Similarly, the SSA visited Patani, the Delta - Bayelsa border post, to monitor the activities of the personnel covering the border in that axis. There, he admonished the personnel to ensure effective implementation of the recommendations of the Committee against the spread of the deadly COVID-19  pandemic in the State.

He also commended the Patani Local Government Council Chairman, Barr Perekibina Omoun and Executive Secretary of Primary Health Care in the LGA, Dr. Nduku Alaowei Maxwell, as well all the personnel covering the border, Whilst encouraging them to be up and doing and also stay safe in the course of discharging their duties.

On his way from Ologbo border, Dr. Nwoko was caught on camera late evening, yesterday when he did a stopover at Alifekede, the Edo - Delta border post in Ika South, where he commended the security personnel and urged heath workers to brace up their duty in order not mar the whole essence of the border closure.
He noted that COVID-19 has taken precedence over other activities in the health sector globally, and therefore, they must make sacrifice by ensuring that the borders are fully covered at all times during the period of the lockdown.

Also today 4th April, the energetic SSA ordered all passengers in a bus intercepted by DETSMA along Asaba-Onitsha express way, to be subjected to temperature check and documentation of their travel history.
He further called for strict adherence to laid down directives on the lockdown order.

The team on today's assignment comprised the Executive Director, State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Jude Winful Orieke, Executive Secretary, Primary Healthcare in Oshimili South LGA, Dr. Eboka Charles and many other health care workers.
