Gov. Okowa's NHS Declaration, A Wakeup Call To Health Care Practitioners -- Dr. Michael Nwoko .
The Patient Center Care (PCC) Model declared by His Excellency, Senator Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State at the recently concluded National Health Summit organised by the Nigerian Medical Association has been described as a wakeup call on Health Care practitioners across the country to apply international best practice when dealing with patients and members of their family.
This entails applying counseling approach in the management of patients health condition.

Dr. Nwoko gave detail explanations of the PCC model while responding to questions when he featured as a guest on 'The Platform', The Pointer Newspaper Guest Of The Week Program, held at the headquarters of the daily tabloid, Asaba, on 7th November 2019.
The SSA's words, 'by reason of His Excellency's declaration at the just concluded National Health Summit organized by the Nigerian Medical Association, the Governor is sending a strong message across to Health Care practitioners, that effective healthcare delivery cannot be guaranteed without adopting the concept of Patient Center Care, because the patient is a stakeholder in the health system. Health facilities cannot exist without the patients, this makes them strategic stakeholders in the healthcare system. Patient Center Care has a lot to do with practising the profession with a high level of integrity and ensuring that the input of the patients or their family members is respected in the course of administering treatment to patients.' He emphasized.
Continuing, Dr. Nwoko explained, 'what the Patient Center Care tend to address according to His Excellency, is for Health Care practitioners to always engage the patients and their family member by letting them know precisely what their condition is and the necessary treatment plan.'
Further he added,' :counseling is an integral component of patient management, you cannot severe patients from proper counseling.'
The SSA further stated,'
'as part of the Patient Center Care model, it is the right of patients to know what they are being treated for and the type of drugs administered to them as well as the reason for the treatment plan. It is also important to respect the opinion of the patients or their family members'. Dr. Nwoko explained.
He conclusively added, 'the declaration is sending a strong signal to healthcare practitioners across the country and indeed, Delta State that this model to a large extent will help in ensuing effective healthcare delivery system, which of course is the nucleus of the Governor's healthcare policy thrust in the State.
