Adequate Sensitization Required To Stop Rural Dweller's From Patronizing Traditional Homes - Dr. Michael Nwoko

By Jerry Onwuma

The Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa on health monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has disclosed that adequate Sensitization is required to bring to a stop, the cultural practise of  patronizing traditional homed by rural Dwellers.

Dr. Nwoko made this disclosure during a working visit by his health monitoring team at Isheagu and some other health facilities within Aniocha South LGA.

According to him, there was need to adequately sensitize the residents of every community where these health facilities were domiciled to enable them benefit from the laudable policies of the State Government ably led by his Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa.

He made particular reference to the free maternal and child health program which is the equity plan of the Delta State Contributory Health Scheme noting that a Mother and Child enrolled under the scheme can walk into a health facility where they are registered and access health care without any payment adding that  many rural dwellers might not be aware of such health benefit package.

He frowned at the situation where a lot of rural dwellers still engage in the cultural practise of patronizing traditional homes where they even have to pay, instead of taking full advantage of the equity plans of the State Government which was completely free. The SSA noted that most of these health care facilities usually inherit those cases from traditional homes as an emergency and in most cases, a lot of complications would have arised before they are brought to the health facility while some could lose their lives while they are still in the traditional homes.

He charged the heads of various units and departments to set aside days when they would embark on full sensitization to residents, especially rural dwellers within communities where  such facilities were domiciled.

Dr. Nwoko said so far he was impressed with what he saw at both the primary health centers at Ubulu - Uku and Ubulu - Uno and the general hospital at Ubulu - Uku,

His word's;

"The staffers are in high spirit and they are equally aware of the State Government's determination towards ensuring a new order in the health sector to ensure that Delta State attains Universal Health Coverage, which is brought about by" accessible, affordable and quality health care in conformity with global standard "

"To achieve this the inputs of the units, departments and wards across the health sector was crucial, and this will eventually lead to the optimal performance and full capacity utilization of the health care facilities"

Earlier, Dr. Nwoko stated that monitoring and evaluation is critical towards revamping the health care sector, since that was the only way Government can ascertain the state of the facilities, and a proper appraisal can be conducted, from where Government is able to know when to expand or increase manpower in the facilities.

He noted that his Excellency, Sen. Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa happens to be the only Governor who is a Medical Doctor in  Nigeria today and that he has made resounding contributions towards revamping the health sector in the Country. This therefore underscores the need for the health indices of Delta State to be number one.

While commending the health workers, he further charged them to remain committed to Governor Okowa's  stronger Delta agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage in the State and urged them to do more.
