The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has reminded staffers of health facilities across the State that the vision of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa, the Governor of Delta State, is to see that health facilities in the State are up and running, and are optimally utilized for effective healthcare delivery service to the people.
Dr. Michael Nwoko stated this while addressing the Press at the General Hospital, Ogwashi Uku, on Thursday 25th October 2019, shortly after he and his Co SSA, Health Monitoring, Dr. Patrick Onwuachi had gone round the departments, units and wards in the hospital.

The team were in the health facility to assess and evaluate the operation of the centre as part of their routine monitoring duty. They arrived at the hospital at 8.30am and were received and conducted round the facility by the Administrative Officer of the centre, Mr. Omar Ijedinma who stood in for the Chief Medical Director, who is said to be away for a health seminar.

Addressing the Press further, Dr. Nwoko added,  'I am very impressed with the level of care provided for patients in this facility, especially the enrollees of the Health Insurance Scheme and I want to commend the staff for the good work they are doing and also encourage them  to increase their momentum.
We have seen the equipment they have, we have also dropped a checklist for them to complete and return to the Office for effective appraisal of the facility.
As you are aware, His Excellency is totally determined to carry out direct oversight of health facilities across the State so as to ensure optimal performance. Considering that Delta State is on the spotlight when it comes to achieving the Universal Health Coverage Policy in the Country.
Having realized the resounding contributions of His Excellency in the Health sector, as a medical doctor, as a formal commissioner for Health, as a former Senator and now as Governor, you will agree with me that his innovative ideas in the health sector clearly demonstrates his  passion for the health of the people. Dr. Michael Nwoko emphasised'

On the sustainability of the health programs of this administration, Dr Nwoko said, 'we know that expectations are high with respect to ensuring that we sustain the tempo. We also know that getting to the top is not the real challenge but the ability to maintain the momentum and remain at the top is what matters. That is why His Excellency deployed us to the field to carry out direct oversight of the health facilities in the State by way of monitoring, evaluation and reporting.
Now everybody is aware that there is a now order in the health sector in the State, and this has lend credence to the reawakening in the entire system and everyone is in high spirit.
This new spirit will encourage a more effective service delivery by the health facilities and help to bridge the gap between the demand side and supply side of health care and in turn guarantee Universal Health Coverage for all residents of the State'. Dr. Michael Nwoko concluded'.

Also, addressing the Press, Dr. Patrick Onwuachi expressed satisfaction at the conduct of management and staff of the Hospital, his words, 'my impression of the hospital is very good, the staff are working very hard, the environment is very clean. We have interviewed some mothers under the free maternal care and I am impressed that all of them expressed satisfaction with the level of care they are receiving. They are thankful to His Excellency for the free maternal and Child health services they are recieving.
We are here to ensure that His Excellency's idea of taking healthcare service in Delta State to higher level is achieved.
What is interesting to me here is the issue of power supply and I want to urge other hospitals in the state to come here to understudy how the hospital have solved the problem of power supply with their internally generated  revenue. I want to commend them for their commitment to duty.' Dr. Onwuachi concluded.

Equally speaking to the Press, Mr. Andrew C. Ohu, the Chief Nursing Officer (Special Grade), of the hospital said, 'We are happy to see the Governor, through his SSAs visit to our hospital to see how beautiful it is. They have noted what is lacking in the hospital but I want to say that we are able to put into maximum use the manpower and equipment we have and the people coming to assess health care here are quite satisfied and happy with our service.' He concluded.

From Ogwashi Uku, the team visited the Azagba Ogwashi Primary Healthcare Centre where they inspected the facility and interacted with Staff and Patients particularly women who recently delivered babies in the facility. They thanked the Governor for the wonderful free maternal and child health programme which has enabled them to access health care without paying a kobo for it.

from there, the team proceeded to the health clinics at Onne and Ogbe Afor IDP camps.

On enquiry by Dr. Nwoko on the health situation in the camp, the Doctor at Ogbe Afor IDP Camp clinic, Dr. Emegeakor stated that they have not recorded any serious health issue in the camp noting that they see more of malaria cases and a few upper respiratory tract infections. He also stated that the people are periodically examined to ensure that there is no outbreak of epidemic in the camp.

The team took the monitoring rendezvous to Model Primary Healthcare Centre at Obodogba, Okpanam and Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre, Ogbe Obi Quarters, Okpanam, Oshimili North Local Government Area, where, after routine inspection of the Centres, the SSA, Dr. Michael Nwoko advised the Chief Matron and staff of the Comprehensive Primary Healthcare Centre to redouble their efforts to reach out to the community leaders and groups in order to sensitise the people on the importance of coming to the Centre to assess health care.
Dr. Nwoko described the Centre which was commissioned by His Excellency, the Governor, when he was commissioner for Health, as massive and advised optimal utilization of the facility for effective delivery of Primary Health Care Service to the people.
